Living Water

The series is inspired by explorations and deep observations of the physical nature of water, as well as pondering the role of water in creation, baptism and reflections on the meaning of Jesus as living water.

Visual inspiration came by visiting the ancient fish ponds at Lanikūhonua (which in Hawaiian means “where heaven meets the earth”) on the west side of the island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. Pondering Biblical scriptures while exploring the coastline, I was particularly drawn to flowing water and various hues of blues and greens from the sky and reflections. Dazzling arrays of light below and on the surface of the water also inspired the work. Taking these experiences into the studio and working from memory, I would add one layer per day.
