Living Water

This series is inspired by deep observation of the physical nature of water, and by pondering the role of water in creation, in baptism, and in the meaning of Jesus as living water.

Visual inspiration came from visiting the ancient fishponds at Lanikūhonua (“where heaven meets the earth”) on the west side of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. Pondering biblical scriptures while exploring the coastline, I was drawn to flowing water and to the many hues of blue and green from the sky and its reflections. Dazzling arrays of light, both below and on the surface of the water, also inspired the work. I carried these experiences into the studio and worked from memory, adding one layer per day.
