REPLENISH

One winter at the beach near our home, the sand washed out and revealed a rocky bottom more than four feet below the normal surface level. Over eight months, the shoreline slowly recovered through the constant tides and powerful wave surges. Just as each new day brought a little more sand to replenish the beach, every morning brings hope to live as “new creations.”

Like the sand, my process is slow and reflective. I apply materials one layer per day over many months, including pulverized mineral pigments (azurite, malachite, turquoise, coral), ground sand and oyster shell, silver, and gold. Each layer is an abstraction of natural beauty captured in time and memory. Creating the work offers a space to grapple with truths from my faith journey, such as what it means to live as a “new creation.”
