Rising light
This series is a response to experiencing the rising light of morning. Flowing brushstrokes and layers of flickering mineral pigments, sometimes with silver powder, crushed sparkling glass, or finely sifted gold leaf, capture the essence of shining light as it rises.
Anticipating the oncoming light with excitement, I watch the slow-moving glow pulsate with life and hope. Pale gold light reaches upward toward a sky of deep lapis lazuli and azurite. It intensifies as it spreads across the horizon, moving toward me and drawing me in, as if to say, “Come and enter into this new day.” It is an invitation to live in newness, with freedom, joy, and gratitude. Reflecting on the following scripture directed the work in the studio.
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.”
